The House Hunt

This past Spring, Jake and decided we were outgrowing our town-home as a family of three and it was time to start the house hunt. We organized our finances, we found a realtor, and little did we know, we entered a one of the most competitive housing markets in 10 years. Houses were flyinggg off the market in less than 24 hours. We would tour a house, make an offer, and quickly learn that we were outbid by another buyer. One house even had 12 offers on it in one weekend. 12! It was a pretty exhausting process BUT it was worth the wait. We found a house that we are so excited to call home!

After getting a little beat-up by the house search, we made a pretty big decision to start hunting for a house that had “potential” rather than move-in ready. And that is exactly what we found!

On July 12, we closed on our sweet home and had exactly 2.5 weeks to make this place move-in ready. We were fortunate to have this gap before we needed to move out of our other house on Aug. 1. With a busy toddler and a summer break, we decided it was best to go all “Chip and Joanna” in a short amount of time so that we didn’t have to live in dust and paint fumes. It was definitely the most hectic 2 weeks of our marriage. But looking back, it was the best decision we could have made!

Between my amazing parents, two awesome contractors, and a few heavy lifters, we made a TON of progress in a short amount of time. To name the big projects… we replaced all the oak trim and doors in the main living space and painted the trim in the bedrooms. We took down our upper kitchen cabinets and built floating shelves. We replaced all the light fixtures, outlet plates, and hardware throughout the house. We painted every room, ceiling, and closet in the house. We ripped out the groovy 80’s gun-rack and a book shelf in the basement and replaced it with build-in shelves next to the fireplace. And last, but certainly needed most, we replaced the basement carpet. Yep, it was a busy 2 WEEKS!

After settling in to our new place, and finally placing picture frames on our shelves, I am excited to share some before and afters of the progress and stories from the madness!
